KINETICS OF FORMATION OF EPICHLOROHYDRIN FROM ALLYL CHLORIDE BY HYDROGEN PEROXIDE USING SODIUM MOLYBDATE AS CATALYST

Abstract

The kinetics and mechanism of formation of epichlorohydrin from allyl chloride by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of sodium molybdate as catalyst have been studied. The reaction is first order with respect to both allyl chloride and sodium molybdate but zero order with respect to hydrogen peroxide. The effect of pH on the reaction rate is also studied. The energy of activation has been determined. A reaction mechanism has also been proposed.
